Righeira is an Italian pop-disco duo who enjoyed great popularity in Italy and continental Europe especially in the 80′s. The group was founded in 1981 by Stefano “Micheal” Rota (Turin, 1961) and Stefano “Johnson” Righi (Turin, 1960). Their English nicknames were given them by their high-school physical education teacher.
In the late spring of ’83 they released the single “Vamos a la playa” (spanish for “Let’s go to the beach”) which gained a huge success in Italy (7 weeks at the top of the Italian singles chart) and all over Europe, reaching even the UK singles chart at n.53. Entirely sung in spanish language, the song’s theme, appearently frivolous and typical cliche summer song, is actually rather serious as it addresses the dangers of atomic bombs and the issue of beach pollution.
From August 2007, the duo is hosting a radio program called “L’estate sta finendo” (named after another of their big hits) on R101
Lyrics
