Raffaella Carra‘ (stage name of Raffaella Pelloni, born in Bologna, 1943) is one of the very few Italian TV icons. In her 50-year long career, she has been a greatly popular singer, dancer, acress and TV host, not only in Italy, but in Spain, Greece, Russia and Latin America as well.
She started acting in several movies since the late 50′s, and she starred in Von Ryan’s Express along with Frank Sinatra. Her big success on TV would arrive a few years later, in 1970 since when she hosted many variety shows, where she could show her uninhibited style in dancing and singing. Curiously, she was the first woman to show her belly button on a TV camera.
Thanks to the great success of her TV shows, and to the love and high regard that many Italian have for her, she was rewarded with the “title” of “Raffa nazionale”.
Her last public appearance is in the recent solidarity concert in favour of people hit by the earthquake in the Emilia-Romagna region. At 69, Carra’ gives an energetic, lively performance, singing one of her biggest hits “Rumore” (“Noise”). The song was a Top 3  in the Italian Singles chart back in 1975.
