Nina Zilli (born in Piacenza, 1980) is an Italian singer-songwriter. She spent her childhood in Ireland, and at the age of 13 she began performing on stage, influenced by the 70′s rock and punk style.  Upon completing her high school studies, she travelled for two years in the States, where she started to pursue her real musical identity, spaced between soul, R&B and italian music from the 60′s.
She participated twice in the Sanremo Music Festival. Her entry in 2010 “L’uomo che amava le donne” won the Ctitics’ Award and was certified gold,  and in 2012 she performed “Per sempre“, which earned her a final 5th place, besides being another certified gold and a Top 5 hit.
Zilli, with her glamour and autoironic look and smooth timbre, has often been regarded as a sort of Italian Amy Winehouse. She will represent Italy in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2012 with the song L’amore e’ femmina (Out of love) which is mostly sung in English, keeping choruses in Italian. It’s a piece definitely 60′s sounding but substancially fashionable, about a woman who keeps telling her man that he should not expect anything from her if he acts like a fool.
