Gigliola Cinquetti (born in Verona in 1947) is an Italian singer, journalist and TV host. She went on to stardom in 1964 by winning the Sanremo Music Festival at the age of 16 with “Non ho l’eta’”. With the same song, she partecipated the following year at the Eurovision Song Contest and giving Italy the first ever victory in the event. From then on, she gained international success, and recorded many versions of her songs into several languages.
In 1973 she wins “Canzonissima” song contest with “Alle porte del sole” and, soon afterwords, will top the Italian singles chart for 9 long weeks. Two years later, Al Martino will score a Top 20 hit in the American Billboard chart with his version “To the door of the sun”.
