It’s Italo disco time again at ItalianPop! And one of the biggest and most well-known exponents of this music style is Gazebo, stage name of the Italian singer and musician Paul Mazzolini.
Gazebo was born in 1960 in Beirut, son of an Italian diplomat and an American singer from Los Angeles. As a teenager, he began his singing career in several rock, jazz and punk bands in France and England. Upon his return to Italy in the early 80′s, he met in Rome producer Paul Micioni who helped him to record his first pop release, Masterpiece, which was a noteworthy hit in 1982.
The international success was just behind the corner, as the next year, Gazebo released his same name debut album, containing the super hit “I like Chopin“, a n.1 in the Italian Singles chart and in other 15 countries. It sold 8 million copies worldwide and contributed to the popularity of the so-called Italo-disco dance style.
The two following albums were not as popular as his first one, though they spanned a few modest hits, so that Mazzolini changes his work team and starts a career as an arranger and producer. Gazebo will reappear on the scene as a singer only in 2006, with a new single called “Tears for Galileo“, which got constant radio airplay and peaked to n.1 in the Euro dance chart.
Lyrics
Remember that piano
so delightful, unusual
that classic sensation
sentimental confusion
Used to say “I like Chopin”
love me now and again
Rainy days never say goodbye
to desire when we are together
rainy days growing in your eyes
tell me where’s my way…
Imagine you’re facin’
a sunshine reflection
a vision of blue skies
forever distractions
Used to say “I like Chopin”
love me now and again
Rainy days never say goodbye
to desire when we are together
rainy days growing in your eyes
tell me where’s my way…
