Hasn’t there anyone who listened at least by chance to “Nel blu dipinto di blu”, better known as Volare? Well, with that song, Domenico Modugno, the “father” of all Italian songwriters, became a pop music legend all over the world. Not only he made it to #1 in the U.S. Billboard chart ( a feat that no other italian singer did) but “Nel blu dipinto di blu” has been the Italian song most performed in the world from 1958 up to date. But Modugno’s fame is not only related to his stellar hit, he was also a fine actor, a great composer, and in his later years, a member of Italian parliament. He died at 66, in 1994, after a long invalidating illness.
“Il maestro di violino” was his last hit to reach the Top 3.

Lyrics

Allora, e’ pronta, signorina?
(si’, maestro)
Corregga la posizione dell’archetto, bene cosi’
FA
LA, MI
RE, MI, FA
Attenzione al MI
(mi scusi)
SOL
SI, FA
SOL, LA, SI
LA, SI, DO, LA, FA…

Che cosa mi sta succedendo…
una tenerezza che
io non ho provato mai.
Lo so che mi sto innamorando
ma non ho il coraggio di
confessarlo neanche a me.
Innamorato di te
ed ho trent’anni di piu’.

Tu, perche’, guardi me? Hai capito gia’
Io, vorrei, dirti che, forse tu lo sai…

Un bene segreto e profondo,
una cosa dolce che
io nascondo dentro me.
L’amore piu’ grande del mondo
nato troppo tardi ormai
per un’uomo come me.
Innamorato di te
ed ho trent’anni di piu’.

Bene, allora ci vediamo dopodomani, signorina.
(no, maestro)
Giovedi’ allora?
(no, maestro, non verro’ piu’)
E perche’? Ha deciso di non continuare a studiare?
(no, maestro)
Ma perche’ allora?
(Perche’…
sono innamorata di Lei)

Thank you so much! I was looking for the lyrics and couldn’t find anywhere. Can you please come up with other lyrics of the artist’s songs? I will appreciate that.

There’s not much video material on the web about Modugno’s songs after the 60’s, but I do plan to share at least another couple of his songs in the future. Stay tuned!
